A short ride but one of the toughest ever. It was bitterly cold, snowing (some of the way) with a brutal 2km climb up a mountain. Furthermore, I had to stop to adjust my front brake calliper with frozen fingers. That was not in the script. My mate Ellwood designed the route; told me it's only a little climb, well mate, hope you get to do it once.
I must admit, I didn't bargain for this and am very ill prepared for these weather conditions. Check out these 2 Ukrainian dudes going in the opposite direction to me to Portugal on how they are dressed and how I am dressed. Hey! at least I am smiling.
With the snow covered landscape and mountains the scenery was spectacular as I made my decent into St Gilgen which is on the shore of Wolfgangsee.
and back in the day Mozart used to spend time here in a house aptly named after him.
St Gilgen is a cute little place, very scenic and I imagine it would look spectacular in summer.
On arrival in St Gilgen, took a short ferry to St Wolfgang, another cute little place giving me an opportunity to take some photos.
On my return to St Gilgen, ran into an Aussie from Melbourne, a school teacher at the local international private school with kids from all over the world at a cost of Euros 55,000 a year. Ouch!
Dinner was a vegetarian spaghetti washed down with the holy water. I am led to understand the weather is improving over the next few days; here's hoping, as I make my way to Gmunden a 78km ride, hopefully on flat roads.
