Another fine day’s start for the final stage of our tour. Warm but cloudy as we made our way out of Beechworth, stopping to take one final photo of the Bakery. Bakeries play a big role in the community in places like Beechworth as it has in our lives on this tour.
The cloud cover was compounded by some back burning as we traced back on the trail that brought us into Beechworth as there is only one way in and one way out. Much to our delight the tracing back was a 15.5km downhill ride until we arrived at Everton where we picked up the trail that was to bring us into Bright. It’s all part of the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail.
Unlike yesterday, today’s trail had interesting attractions in addition to the tradtional cows, bulls etc on either side of it as captured in the photos below.
Coming into Myrtleford, there were a couple of big units of trees as an attraction; we rested our bikes against them to give a perspective of size.
The welcome to Myrtleford sign and these two tree attractions were the first three stops followed by a stop at the local Bakery of course, where else, for an extra hot cappuccino with added chocolate for Ursi and an extra hot chai latte for me and the best of all, this slice of (the locals call it Vienna) Vanilla Slice.
Following this refuel in Myrtleford, we made our way out of town to the trail for the final push into Bright coming across a lot more cyclists (taking advantage of warm weather and the trail as yet again we came across attractions on either side of the trail, some more traditional than others but hey! who cares?
Whoever came up with the idea of converting old disused railway lines into pedestrian/bicycle paths deserves a medal as having built them, cycling enthusiasts come form all over the place to utilise them thus creating a good economy for the local communities.
Closer to Bright, riding next to a golf course (a teaser for me), and small trees changing colours and of course the traditional cafe for cyclists as we finally arrived together in one piece but alas no one there to welcome us. END OF THE ROAD. Here is a summary of the stats of the tour.
Total Kms 346
Total Elevation 2,819 meters
Total Calories 10,950 (for Ursi’s benefit)
No flat tyres
No broken bones
A little hurt pride (Ursi’s) for not completing Stage 2
